TISBURY COMPOSTING

Compost bins and hut Shredder Trommel (Rotary sieve)

Tisbury Composting was set up in 2005 as a part of a Wiltshire Wildlife Trust initiative and is now managed for the Parish Council, entirely voluntarily, by members of the Tisbury composting group.

The site is open from the beginning of April to at least the end of October each year. Opening times are from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays and from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Nearly all forms of garden waste, including branches of up to about 3" (75mm) diameter, are welcome and we also accept shredded  paper. Most coniferous materials and stringy leaves such as Cordyline or Palm, unfortunately, have to be rejected because they take too long to condition.

Bagged up soil conditioner (We're not allowed to call it compost because it may not meet the stringent rules for it to qualify as compost) is normally available for £1 per bag (unsieved) or £1.50 (sieved). Mulch (output from the shredder) is usually available at 50p per bag or free when we have a glut of it.

We are very grateful to the Community Payback team of the Wiltshire Probation Trust who organise and supervise Community Service Offenders to turn the contents of the bins, assist with the shredder, run the trommel and bag up materials that are ready for sale.

Finding the site

Drive right through the Churchill Estate and turn left into Weaveland Road. Continue for about 200 yards until you see the sign which is at the start of the short track leading to the site.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The site is overseen by at least one member of the group during opening hours whose main duties are to advise users where to leave their materials, sell bags of soil improver and to record incoming and outgoing materials.

We hope to have enough volunteers so that they only need to supervise about 3 sessions per season. The rota is flexible.

Benefits include free soil improver,  the right to dump stuff outside normal opening hours, loan of the trommel for personal use and a key to the executive hut.

Contact Annabel Sutton  by phone (01747 871033) or email her if you would like to join.

PLEASE DO NOT DUMP WASTE OUTSIDE NORMAL OPENING HOURS
Anyone doing so may be reported for fly tipping
